Your pitch steers the little spiky bird. The notes of the solo entry of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor come at you as round birds sitting on the telephone wires, which are the five lines of the staff. Be at a bird's height the moment it arrives to catch it, then hold the pitch to eat the seeds behind it. A bird you miss flies off and costs points. Three clean flights in a row unlock the next tempo.
Press Start flight. You get one bar of count-in (1 · 2 · 1), then play from the pickup. Before you start, play any note: your bird already follows you.
Your bird follows the centre of your vibrato, so play with your normal vibrato. Each note is judged by its average pitch: long notes at the tolerance you choose, quarter notes with 1.5 times and the eighth with twice as much room. The first moment of each note is not judged, so a clean shift or string crossing never costs you a note. Near a note your bird's height is magnified, so a note bird's edge is about 50 cents off. Points: caught in tune +100, grazed +40, missed −50, each seed +10. A clean flight needs every bird caught. Headphones keep the metronome out of the microphone.
